Public transport with the Florence Pass

Information on the use of buses and streetcars in Florence as well as information on the validity of the Florence Pass.

Local transport in Florence

Florence has no metro, but a dense network of buses and streetcars. The bus network covers the entire city (including small electric buses in the old town), while two modern tram lines (T1 and T2) connect the suburbs and the airport with the city center. Bus and streetcar use the same tickets.

Practical use

  1. Buy tickets: You can buy tickets before the start of your journey from vending machines (at streetcar stations and important bus stops), in tobacco shops (tabacchi), kiosks, cafés or at the ticket counter at the main station. You can also buy a mobile ticket on your smartphone using the AT Bus app. Alternatively, you can hold your credit card or smartphone up to the reader when boarding to buy a contactless ticket. A single ticket costs €1.70 and is valid for 90 minutes for any number of journeys (bus & streetcar) once validated.
  2. Validate ticket: When boarding, you must validate your ticket. Insert the paper ticket into the yellow validator; mobile phone tickets are activated in advance in the app. With contactless card payment, validation is not necessary. Transferring: You can transfer as often as you like within the 90 minutes. If you are using a credit card, hold it up to the reader each time you change (nothing will be charged twice).

Timetable and public transport app

Operating times: Buses run from around 6:00 to 22:00 (Sun from approx. 8:30); some lines even run until 2:00 on Thursdays and Saturdays. The streetcar runs daily from around 5:00-0:30, on Fri and Sat until 1:45. The AT Bus app offers you the latest timetable information with route planner, live departures and ticket purchase. The app is free of charge for Android and iOS.

  • Central station: Santa Maria Novella (SMN) is the central hub. Numerous bus lines and both streetcar lines run here. The Campo di Marte and Rifredi** train stations are connected by city buses.
